(I will not answer if I’m in a session so do not hesitate to send me a message)
I graduated in Psychology and Italian in 2010 and specialised further in Psychology. I then worked with people with intellectual and physical disabilities and this is where I realised what a powerful tool art can be in communication and therapeutic practices. Therefore I started looking for ways to bring together my passion, art, and my studies in Psychology.
In 2013, I moved to Derby, United Kingdom where I read for a Masters in Art Therapy. While in the UK I worked within a neuro-rehabilitation hospital with persons who have experienced a traumatic brain injury.
On my return to Malta, I worked for 6 years within the local National Mental Health services both in-patient and out-patient offering therapy and psychological interventions to people with an array of mental health difficulties. After this I worked with vulnerable youth (13- 25 years) , supporting them therapeutically, towards independence and success.
I also enjoy working with Voluntary organisations and mostly offer workshops and group sessions in this setting. I was also the president of CATS, the Creative Arts Therapies society from 2018 to 2022.
I currently work with children, youth, and adults who are struggling with issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, identity and self-esteem. In therapy, my desire is to provide supportive opportunities for personal growth, increased well-being and healing with the aid of the creative process.
What is Art Psychotherapy? It is a form of psychotherapy that uses art as a tool to facilitate expression and communication. Within this context, art is not used as a diagnostic tool but as a medium to address emotional issues which may be confusing and distressing. It is suitable for people of all ages and one does not need to be good at art-making to be able to engage in Art Therapy.
