Psychological assessment

A full psycho-educational assessment usually takes up to five sessions which include an initial parent/caregiver meeting, school observation (if applicable), testing, and feedback on assessment findings. Each session lasts an hour to an hour and a half. As part of the assessment process, I also consult with revelant school personnel and write a comprehensive psychological report outlining assessment findings.

Psychotherapy sessions

Each session lasts 50 minutes to an hour, and in the first session we will negotiate the frequency of the sessions as required.

My areas of expertise

I am an Educational Psychologist and a Gestalt Psychotherapist. I have extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in educational settings, non-government organisations (NGOs) and private practice.

I provide psychological assessments and consultation for developmental and learning difficulties, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and SpLDs (Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, etc.). I also write psychological reports to assist with school or work-related functioning, including obtaining a statement for additional class support and examination access arrangements.

Apart from this, I provide psychotherapy sessions to individuals on issues related to general mental well-being, stress and professional burnout, low self-esteem, adjustment to life transitions, anxiety, grief, as well as, personal development. I work therapeutically with siblings of children with special needs, individuals experiencing exam-related stress, and individuals striving to come to terms with a learning difficulty. I also deliver social skills training to children and adolescents with social communication difficulties.

I predominantly apply a Gestalt approach to my work with clients. Notwithstanding this, I also draw upon other psychological frameworks and techniques, such as systemic theory and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) in my interventions with clients.    A Gestalt approach is holistic, in that it strives to address the whole person with their unique experiences and realities. By means of increased self-awareness and a clear understanding of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, individuals are supported in developing new perspectives and in bringing positive changes into their lives.

My training and professional accreditations

I have obtained a Master degree in Educational Psychology in 2014 and hold a warrant in Psychology (Educational Psychologist) with the Malta Psychology Profession Board. I have also obtained a Master degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy in 2018 and hold a warrant in Psychotherapy (Gestalt Psychotherapist) with the Psychotherapy Profession Board Malta. On a professional level, I act as a practice placement tutor to Learning Support Educators (LSEs) in training at the University of Malta.
